This is a hybrid role, with four days of remote work and one day per week in our Toronto office located at 2300 Yonge Street.

About the Role: As our Digital Editor, you will be the driving force behind Canadian Grocer's digital content. You'll combine your strong writing and editing skills with a sharp understanding of digital trends and technologies to produce authoritative and insightful content. This role requires strong organizational abilities, a proactive approach to cultivating industry relationships, and a focus on optimizing content for maximum reach and engagement.
Content Creation & Management:
Pitch, write, edit, and produce high-quality, deadline-driven content for Canadian Grocer’s integrated platforms, including our five weekly newsletters, website, and social media channels.
Oversee and manage assignments for freelance writers.
Ensure content consistency and quality across all media types and web platforms.
Digital Strategy & Amplification:
Drive brand awareness and engagement by leveraging leading social media platforms with consistent daily posting (4x/day).
Implement and track KPIs, applying SEO best practices to maximize content discoverability and amplification.
Analyze website, social media, and newsletter metrics to refine content strategy and provide weekly, quarterly, and yearly performance updates to brand leaders.
Stay abreast of new trends in digital technology, marketing, and SEO tools.
Community & Relationship Building:
Cultivate and maintain relationships with industry sources, columnists, and key stakeholders to build and strengthen Canadian Grocer's communities.
Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, digital operations, and art departments to optimize content strategy.
Editorial Operations:
Manage the digital editorial calendar.
Supervise and manage the layout of video, images, graphics, and other artwork on digital platforms.
Proofread and edit all materials to ensure accuracy and adherence to editorial standards.
Ensure compliance with copyright and privacy standards, and company policies.
Manage monthly content budgets.
Event Participation:
Attend digital and physical industry events as needed.
Occasionally work evenings or weekends to cover breaking news, special reports, or live events.
Job requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
5+ years of proven experience as a Digital Editor, preferably in a B2B environment.
A strong passion for the retailing industry, especially food retailing.
Exceptional writing, proofreading, editing, and copywriting skills, with a strong understanding of CP style conventions.
A robust portfolio of published digital work.
In-depth knowledge of SEO best practices and experience with SEO and marketing tools.
Proficiency with content management systems (e.g., Drupal), Google Analytics, social media scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite), and video/photo editing tools.
Basic knowledge of HTML.
Excellent organizational, time-management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
A creative mindset with a keen attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
A strong background and interest in social media and digital technology trends.
Occasional travel to Canadian Grocer events and industry conferences (a few times per year).
