ABOUT THE ROLE: Convenience Store News is seeking an associate editor, with a high level of interest in the convenience store industry, who can create quality, insightful content and aid in its amplification across our print, digital and event platforms. The associate editor will be highly focused on the key product categories of tobacco, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, as well as covering industry news, reporting to the editor-in-chief.

As associate editor, you will be part of a highly regarded content creation team dedicated to informing, inspiring and educating the markets we serve through a multiplatform approach. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: The associate editor’s top priority is the creation of high quality content that resonates and is of value to an audience of retailers, suppliers and solution providers involved in the convenience store industry. The associate editor is someone who:

  • Identifies, researches, sources and writes accurate and appropriately positioned articles in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines.

  • Works with digital tools to publish articles with relevant art digitally, create newsletters and amplify content via social media platforms.

  • Enjoys learning and discovering new and innovative aspects of the convenience retail industry.

  • Wants to be part of an award-winning editorial team focused on serving an industry that is part of the fabric of society.

  • Is a creative thinker willing to share ideas, risk failure, work hard - and smart - and actively participate in editorial staff meetings and discussions of industry trends.

  • Develops and nurtures relationships with industry sources from the ecosystem of retailers, suppliers and solution providers served by Convenience Store News.

  • Looks forward to attending digital and physical events, as needed, meeting new people and discovering product trends and new business opportunities.

  • Can quickly adjust priorities when a big story breaks or major projects require a team effort.

  • Stays informed about industry trends through reading of industry sources, store visits to observe merchandising and operational trends and uncover innovation.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or English preferred.

  • 1 - 3 years relevant working experience 

  • Relevant experience in B2B publishing is highly desired.

  • Photography and basic image editing skills are a plus.

  • Technology aptitude and ability to use, or quickly learn Google tools, drupal CMS

  • Occasional travel, depending on location.

  • An enterprising attitude and service orientation to help those in the markets served by Convenience Store News to be successful.

  • Excellent writing, proofreading and communication skills.

  • Experience using e-newsletter creation tools to assemble daily and weekly newsletters as needed in collaboration with digital operations team members.
